Alfred John Tetlow, known as John to his family and friends, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 12, 2025, in Kingston at the age of 96.
Born on September 22, 1929, in Huddersfield, England, John lived a charmed life filled with love, laughter, keen knowledge and fabulous food and wine!
He was predeceased by his daughter Sara Tetlow and wives Sheila Pullen and Huguette Lavertu.
John leaves behind his loving wife Nancy Irwin, daughters Judy, Fiona (Dale Roe), and Cathy Johns (Gary). He was the cherished grandfather of Sydney Midwood (Dave Willis), Jillian Schouppe (Dylan Eus), Matthew Schouppe (Cass Figliuzzi), Jake and Danni Johns and special great-grandpa to Quinn and Logan Willis; all of whom he was exceedingly proud!
Dr. John Tetlow earned his PhD in Chemistry from Cambridge University in England. He began his management career at ICI in Harrogate and immigrated with a young family to Canada in 1968. He worked locally at Celanese until his retirement.
John's interests were diverse. In his earlier years he enjoyed bridge and was also an excellent marksman who represented both Canada and England on their National Rifle Teams. As an astute personal financial planner he took great pride in ensuring a secure future for himself and his family.
Clearly intelligent, organized and analytical, John was also known for his wry sense of humor. He thoroughly enjoyed travel and was known for his focus on fine food and wine while gathering with family and friends.
John's life was a testament to the power of resilience, (19 lives!) the value of love, and the strength of family loyalty.
He was well loved and will be dearly missed by all of his family, wife Nancy Irwin and their two little dogs Fritz & Una.
The family will be accepting visitors on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at James Reid Funeral Home, Celebration Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston. Please enter through the rear doors. There will be words shared at 1:30 pm, refreshments to follow. If desired, memorial donations can be made to Kingston Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
