Ann W. Lackey Obituary

Ann W. Lackey, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at The Huntington in Newport News, VA, at the age of 92. Born on October 28, 1933, in Inwood, West Virginia, Ann lived a life filled with love, dedication, and gentle strength.

A proud alumna of Longwood College, Ann graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1955, fueled by a passion for education and a desire to impact young minds. She spent her career as an elementary school teacher, fondly remembered by her students and peers for her patience and unwavering commitment to nurturing the potential within every child.

Ann was a beacon of warmth and intelligence, inspiring all who knew her. Her life was enriched by her deep love for her family, a devotion that shone through in her relationships with her children, grandchildren and her namesake niece, Jackie. Known for her fierce but gentle spirit, Ann was the eye in the calm of the storm of three headstrong men, guiding her family with wisdom and grace.

Outside of her professional life, Ann found joy in the simple pleasures of life: reading, playing bridge, and taking home big wins from penny bingo. These pursuits provided her with endless delight and a sense of community among friends and loved ones.

Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David B. Lackey, Sr.; her parents, Archie E. and Katy (Trenary) Weatherholtz; her sister, Juanita (Weatherholtz) Fletcher and her husband Laverne; and her brother, Jack Milton Weatherholtz. Her legacy is carried forward by her surviving sons, David Bentley Lackey, Jr., and Ronald Lee (RJ) Lackey; her cherished grandchildren, Mereweather and her partner Jackson, Ellen Gray and her husband Joe, Glynn Claire, and David III and his partner Allie; as well as her brother Jerry Weatherholtz and his wife Bonnie.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ann's remarkable life on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:30 am, at Altmeyer Funeral Home - Denbigh Chapel, in Newport News, VA.
