Jack Hurson
In loving memory of John A. Hurson, Jr.
November 29, 1941 – November 12, 2025
Jack Hurson, a longtime resident of Irvington, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 12, 2025.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jack was known for his kindness, integrity, and sense of humor.
Born on November 29, 1941, in Highland Park, Illinois, Jack attended Jesuit High School in Dallas and Georgetown University, later earning his MBA from the University of Chicago. While at Georgetown, he met Rita, his beloved wife of 33 years, and they were married in 1965. A position at General Foods brought the couple to New York, where they would make their lifelong home.
Community involvement was a constant throughout Jack’s life. He co-directed the Sunnyside Youth Track Team, served as a high school football referee for fifty years, and sat on the Irvington Board of Trustees, eventually serving as mayor. Jack was also deeply engaged in charitable work, most recently with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. No less important, he loved simply walking along Main Street and chatting with his many friends in town.
Jack was fond of Chuck Berry, spy novels, golden retrievers, and lively gatherings with his Barney Park neighbors and college friends. Together with Rita, he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
He will be deeply missed by his son and family, John, Jennifer, Charlotte, and Freddie, and his daughter and family, Christine, Pete, Amelia, and Julia; and his sister, Chrissie.
