Mary Ann DeVirgilio
September 25, 1942 - November 12, 2025
Mary Ann DeVirgilio, 83, of Bay Shore, New York, entered eternal rest on November 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 25, 1942, to the late Antoinette and Tom Orandello, Mary Ann lived a life filled with faith, joy, and service to others. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis V. DeVirgilio, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a beautiful family and a life grounded in love and devotion to God.
Mary Ann was the proud mother of four children: the late Ann Marie Schuch (husband Michael), Lisa Smyth (husband Fergal), Louis DeVirgilio (Zohn Brown) and Christa DeVirgilio. She was a cherished grandmother to thirteen grandchildren-Michael Joseph, Jules, Kate, Louis, Peter, Liana, Adira, Rowan, Tristan, Gage, Oona, Liam, and Morgan-and great-grandmother to Luca and Kieran. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Joan Meyer and Gen Phillips, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her deeply.
Mary Ann's life was a reflection of her deep Catholic faith. She served her parish community at St. Patrick's Church in Bay Shore for many years as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Pre-Cana ministry, the Social Justice Committee, and as a devoted volunteer in the Soup Kitchen. She built lifelong friendships through two prayer groups that remained close until her final days.
Mary Ann owned and operated a cleaning business for over 30 years. True to her faith, she often carried a handwritten prayer list, praying for others as she worked. Her joy was contagious-her favorite saying, "I'm sooo happy!", summed up the spirit with which she lived. She found great happiness in gathering family and friends for celebrations, sharing meals, laughter, and fellowship.
In the final days of her life, her family and friends gathered for a healing prayer and celebration of life service at her home, where she received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick from Fr. Joe. Surrounded by prayer, love, and song, Mary Ann heard the words of those whose lives she had touched. She left this world peacefully, knowing she was deeply loved.
Mary Ann will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose unwavering faith and radiant joy left the world better than she found it.
Mary Ann's love for service and faith continues through the lives she touched.
