William “Bill” A. Wirth Obituary

POTOMAC—William A. Wirth (Bill/Pop), 85, passed away on October 12, at Gifford, IL.

Mr. Wirth was born on September 4, 1940, the Son of Herman J.and Olive Cater Wirth in Urbana, Illinois.  Both his parents and a son, Anthony A. Wirth proceeded him in death.  Surviving him are his wife of 42 years, Marilyn McClellan, sons William J. Wirth (Billy) of Bement Il. and Donald T. Wirth (Tammy) of Temple Tx. as well as many grand and great grandchildren.

Pop attended Holy Cross and Champaign Schools.  He worked for the US Postal Service for 33years in numerous different positions throughout the country retiring as the Postmaster in Bement Il. in October 1992.

Bill was involved in several volunteer organizations in the Bement, Illinois area and had a lifelong interest in the clay target shooting sports.  He was a lifetime member of the American Trapshooting Association, the National Skeet Shooting Association and a member of many local sportsman’s clubs.

Pop will be greatly missed.

 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 4112 W. Bloomington Road, Champaign, IL 61822, with Pastor Gary Davis officiating. Full military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice. The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac to assist them in honoring Bill’s life.
