Betty Lucille Kirven, 91, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025.
Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on July 28, 1934, Betty lived a life defined by faith, generosity, and steadfast love for her family and community. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Essie Goodson, and leaves behind a legacy that stretches across generations.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Patricia Adams, and her son-in-law, Thomas Adams. She was the proud grandmother of Aubrey Adams, Andrea Greer, LaTonya Queme, and Trusure Adams, and the cherished matriarch of eleven great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
A devoted servant of both her community and the Lord, Betty’s life was marked by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to others. She received the Fred Moore NAACP Award for Outstanding Community Service, a 10-Year Marriott Exceptional Service Award, and was honored by the City of Denton with an official proclamation naming April 1st “Betty Kirven Day.” She was also active in the Foster Grandparent Program, where she poured her heart into supporting children and families. Earlier in life, she enjoyed playing softball, bringing to the field the same spirit and determination she carried throughout her life.
Betty’s love was expressed most beautifully through her kitchen. Known for her exceptional cooking and baking, she fed countless people with warmth, comfort, and joy. To many, she was lovingly known as “Mama Betty,” a name that reflected her open arms, welcoming spirit, and the way she mothered everyone who crossed her path. She offered kindness without hesitation and created a sense of home wherever she went.
Above all, Betty was a light. She served others—and God—with her whole heart, and her legacy will continue to shine through every life she touched.
The family welcomes donations in her honor to the National Kidney Foundation.
