A Celebration of the Life of Judy Ann Hunter
We gather today to celebrate the remarkable life of Judy Ann Hunter—a life characterized by enduring strength, unwavering faith, and a capacity for joy that touched everyone she met.
Judy’s earliest chapters taught her resilience. Losing her parents at a young age, she was raised by her beloved grandmother, Ida L. Morris, affectionately known as "Choo Choo." It was in that home, nestled near the rhythm of the railroad tracks, that Judy learned the strength of family and community—lessons she carried throughout her 83 years.
That foundation led her to the greatest partnership of her life. On her 18th birthday, Judy married her true love, Gary Lee Hunter, beginning a devoted and loving marriage that spanned decades. Together, they built a beautiful life, whether starting out in Falls Church, VA, raising their family in Stafford, VA, or finally settling into their Florida retirement home in Holiday in 1994. Their marriage was a shared adventure, taking them from the sunny shores of Myrtle Beach to the natural wonders of Yellowstone National Park.
A Woman of Deep Faith and Generous Heart
Judy was, first and foremost, a woman whose soul was anchored by a deep, resonant faith in the Lord. This faith wasn't passive; it was the driving force behind her immense generosity and community spirit. She was a tireless volunteer, particularly at her church, where she poured her heart into projects like the annual pumpkin patch, bringing harvest cheer to the community. Her service also extended beyond the church walls to the Florida Christian Hot Rod Association and her compassionate work supporting wheelchairs for kids, showing her dedication to helping those in need in every walk of life.
Love, Laughter, and Adventure
Judy knew how to live life fully. Her social calendar was always packed, usually around a table enjoying the company of friends. She loved the challenge and camaraderie of cards and dominoes, was a familiar face at Bingo nights, and enjoyed the lively rhythm of square dancing.
Her adventurous spirit was evident in her travels. Judy and Gary saw the world together, creating unforgettable memories in faraway places, including trips to Alaska, Germany, and the tropical warmth of Hawaii. She embraced new experiences and the simple pleasure of seeing the beauty the Lord had created.
And in her daily life, she found joy in the simple, perfect things: the warmth of pancakes for breakfast, and the refreshing sweetness of a popsicle for a snack. These small details paint the picture of a woman who cherished comfort, sweetness, and easy companionship.
Legacy of Joy
The true measure of Judy’s life lies in the family she created and the love she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted children, Valerie, Jeffrey, and Vickie, who carry on her legacy of warmth and dedication. She was blessed with ten cherished grandchildren and a large, loving host of great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of immense and unending joy in her life.
Judy Ann Hunter will be remembered as an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her life, though marked by early loss, was defined by the deep and lasting love she built. We thank the Lord for the gift of her time with us, and we know that her enduring love and profound faith will remain with us always.
