Carl Rupert Starnes Obituary

Carl Rupert Starnes, widower of Mary Brigman Starnes, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his residence. He was 102 years old.

Carl was born in Lancaster County, SC on July 16, 1923, to the late Zeb Vance and Mary Gathing Starnes. He was a member of Bennettsville First Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the United States Army 3rd Battalion Infantry, serving in Germany during WWII. He loved woodworking, tinkering, working in the garden, doing puzzle, building things, working with his Farmall tractor, attending the First Church of the Nazarene, and spending time with his friend John Thompson.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memory; son, Carl Randy Starnes and wife Nancy; sister, Michell Faircloth; grandchildren, Randy Lee Starnes and wife Jess and Brad Lineberry and wife Kaycee; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; caregivers, Jerry Starnes and Charlie Mae Gardner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 62 years listed above, 3 brothers, Vance Thomas Starnes, Robert Wyatt Starnes, and Ralph C. “John” Starnes, and sister, Annie Elena Hagler.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Burroughs Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Kevin Sprague, with burial with Military Honors at McCall Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm, Friday, November 14, 2025, at Burroughs Funeral Home.
