On October 12, 1946, a beautiful soul, Daniel (Leroy) Johnson, was born to the late Rev. Joseph and Cillian Johnson of Cross, South Carolina. He dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age and attended St. Matthews A.M.E. Church of Cross where his father served as pastor. On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Daniel unexpectedly departed this life in Bridgeport, CT. “Thus, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

Daniel grew up in Cross, South Carolina, and received his education in the Berkeley County School System. On March 29, 1969, he married the love of his life, Carrie Johnson. In 1976, the couple relocated to Bridgeport/Stratford, CT, where Daniel began a long and dedicated career as a truck driver for USG, faithfully serving for 36 years until his health declined in 2005.

Daniel was a devoted member of English Chapel Cathedral of Miracles in Bridgeport, CT. He served faithfully as a Trustee on the Trustee Board, Member of the Male Chorus, and church van driver, under the leadership of the late Bishop Jonathan Powell. He was later installed as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Bishop Earnest Epps. Daniel was always willing to lend a helping hand and remained dedicated to serving the church in any way he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Joseph and Cillian Johnson; his brothers, Joseph Johnson Jr. and Moses Johnson; and his sisters, Elizabeth Gerideau, Lula Mae Huger, and Mary “Peg” Senni Hicks.

Daniel leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife of 56 years, Carrie Johnson; his daughter, Sandra Johnson, and son, Larry Johnson, both of Stratford, CT; his brother, Peter (Delores) Johnson of Cross, SC; and his sister-in-law, Eva Johnson of Miami, FL. He is also lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Christina Pane-Johnson and Totiana Pane-Shack, both of Easton, Pennsylvania; his great-grandchildren, Tahiem Pane and RJ Pane; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever honor his memory.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 4p.m at English Chapel Cathedral, 285 Wilmot Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut. Family and friends may view at the church a 3p.m until time of service. Funeral arrangements that will be held in South Carolina will be forthcoming.
