Delennie Stephen Wabason Obituary

Delennie Wabason

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delennie Wabason, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Delennie was born to Jennifer Ignace and Delennie Wabason Sr. His sister, Cecily Ignace, cherished him deeply and always held her “baby brother” close to her heart. At a young age, Delennie became part of the Ponton family, where he was lovingly raised from the age of two by his foster parents, Ken and Melda “Feathers” Ponton. He would often come home to his Mama Bear, Feathers, for haircuts and hot meals, moments that brought him comfort and connection. Though Ken has since passed, his love and guidance remained an important part of Delennie’s life.

Delennie is survived by Jennifer Ignace (Mother), Cecily (Sister), James Matinet (Grandfather), Stella Wabasons (Grandmother), Aunts, Jocelyn Wabason (Paul), Arlena Shapwaykeesic, Doris Wabasons (Allan), Hilda Matinet (Robert), Gloria Wabasons (John), Ashley (Johnathan), Alicia Matinet, Grace Matinet, Uncles, Stanley Wabasons, Horace Wabasons (Zelda), Peter Deafy. Delennie will also be dearly missed by his foster siblings: Mandy (Scott) Coppin and Kenny Ponton along with his niece Elisabeth Coppin and nephew Jacob Coppin.

Predeceased by Steve Wabasons (Grandfather), Joanne Ignace (Grandmother), Delaney Wabasons (Father), Margaret Nodin (Aunt), Ervin (Uncle), Mary (Aunt), Adele (Aunt), Bruce (Uncle), Bradley (Uncle), Jamie (Uncle) Kevin Wabasons (Cousin), Julian Matinet (Cousin), Robert Matinet (Cousin).

Those who knew Delennie will remember his infectious smile, kind heart, and sense of humor. He had a passion for hockey, biking, and spending time at camp on Agimak Lake, where he found peace and joy in the outdoors. Despite the challenges he faced in life, Delennie always treated those around him with compassion, laughter, and generosity.

Delennie’s spirit, warmth, and light will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
