Jacob William Hughes passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, just shy of his 98th birthday. He was born on November 18, 1927, to the late Bertha Schmidt and George William Hughes.

A dedicated public servant and lifelong learner, Jacob's commitment to his country was evident throughout his life. He proudly served in multiple branches of the armed forces, including the US Coast Guard, the US Marine Corps Reserves, and the US Army. His academic pursuits led him to graduate from the University of New Mexico and later attend George Washington University.

Jacob went on to have a long and distinguished professional career, making significant contributions across several key government agencies. His passion and expertise benefited the US National Park Service, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the US Department of Interior.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Koth Thomas. He also leaves behind his devoted family:

A memorial service will be held on Thursday Oct 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick Maryland.
