Roger J. LaCarrubba Obituary

Roger John LaCarrubba of Frankford, New Jersey, passed away on October 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 30, 1950 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Carmen and Elsie LaCarrubba (Bann), Rog’s early outlook on life was shaped by family, friends, and neighbors in North Bergen.

In 1967, he moved from North Bergen to Wantage, where he formed lifelong friendships and made countless memories at the “Ponderrubba”—a place where everyone was welcome to stay for a meal, enjoy good music, share a great time, and discuss the issues of the day.

Rog built a career around his deep appreciation for art, history, and antiques, spending over forty years specializing in stoneware pottery, folk art, and country primitive furniture. He owned and operated RJ Nichols Auction Co. in Sussex County and Port Jervis, NY, and was a trusted appraiser of art, antiques, and jewelry. With a devoted crew and loyal following, he forged lifelong friendships in the antiques business along the way.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five cherished years, JoAnn (Coats), with whom he built a beautiful life centered around their children Jessica (Robert) Musilli, Kory (Roberto) Loyola, and Dominic (Nicole) LaCarrubba and loving grandchildren Grace, Santino, Daniel, Quentin, and Morgan. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce LaCarrubba, in 2023. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and godchildren, as well as his sisters-in-law and their families, all of whom he loved dearly.

An epic story teller, card shark, and jokester, he was a lover of diners, seafood, great music and old movies. He was a true friend and always a fierce defender of the underdog. If you ever had the pleasure of spending time with him, you knew that he made a point to remember your name and your story. For Rog, it was all about people’s lives and personal connections.

Indeed, the world was a better place with him in it.
