It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Coen, a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, proud veteran and friend to many. Born on April 25, 1940, in Saint Louis, MO, Michael lived a life filled with joy and simple pleasures until his peaceful departure on October 5, 2025, at the age of 85.
Michael was a dedicated Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, serving from February 19, 1962, to February 15, 1966. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried with pride throughout his life. After his military service, he devoted many years to the soda industry as a bottler with Vess and Pepsi, where he became well-known for his work ethic and friendly demeanor.
Beyond his professional life, Michael was a true master in the kitchen-famed among friends and family for his delectable chocolate chip cookies. He was also an avid gardener, finding peace and fulfillment in nurturing his plants, and a die-hard Blues fan, always enthusiastic and ready to cheer for his team.
Michael is survived by his dear sister, Julia (Frank) Koziacki, and his brother, James (Mary Jane) Coen, who will forever cherish the countless memories and laughter they shared. He will also be remembered fondly by his significant other, Janie Schwager, who brought much joy and companionship to his later years. Michael is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Julia Coen, siblings Jackie Vietor, Nancy Quinlisk, and Tommy Coen.
The celebration of Michael's life will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025. A public visitation will be held at Holy Name of Jesus from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, leading to a Mass at the same location at 10:00 AM.
