Robert Duane Alexander, of Portland, Maine, passed away following a sudden illness in Georgia. Born on January 22, 1947, Bob will be remembered for his warmth, quick wit, and generous spirit.

He was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Morris Alexander. Bob is survived by his sister, Joyce A. Jones of Branson, MO; his children, Keri Alexander (Shayne Pagles) of Winnebago, IL, along with their children Austin Alexander and Katelynn Alexander of Phoenix, AZ, and Lela Pagles and Oscar Pagles; Scott Alexander and his son Zachary Matheson (Alex) of Byron, IL, and their daughter Riley Page Matheson; and Brent Earl Carter (Nicole) of Townsend, MA, along with their children Devin, Justin, and Olivia. 

He leaves behind his beloved niece Laurie Hoshauer and nephews Mark Jones, Mike Jones, and Steve Jones, as well as many cherished grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces/nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Bob is also survived by his dear friends Hap Schneider and Jessica May Schneider, who were like family to him.

Bob will be remembered for his kindness, his love of family, and his pride in his roots. A lifelong reader and traveler, he found joy in exploring the world—often wherever his feet would take him, hitchhiking and discovering new places. His stories, laughter, and adventurous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A graveside memorial service and burial of ashes will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, Maine, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM (noon). The service will include a bagpiper tribute. Friends and family are welcome to join the family afterward at Three Dollar Deweys in Portland to raise a toast, share stories and memories, and continue celebrating Bob's life, followed by a bonfire gathering in Saco, Maine, on Saturday evening.
