WAPPINGERS FALLS - Agnes Theresa Taylor, 87, an area resident since 1973 and formerly of Yonkers, died peacefully at her daughter's home, surrounded by her family, on September 26, 2025.
Born in Manhattan on October 16, 1937, she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes (Cassidy) Merz. Agnes had been employed as a stenographer for the New York State Department of Corrections at Green Haven Correctional Facility and retired in 2000.
Agnes was a parishioner of St. Columba Church. She had dozens of hobbies including crafts, gardening, painting, crocheting, knitting, reading, watching movies, and playing the guitar. She was also a lover of animals, especially dogs and cats, and was known for her kindness and sense of humor.
Agnes is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael and Christy Taylor, and Patty and Peter Economos; her grandsons, Joey and Jake Taylor; her brother, William Merz; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her twin sister, Betty Shay, and her brother Robert, both in 2024.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Private interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA or Hudson Valley Hospice.
