Myrtle Joyce Prendergast, 87, a resident of Wilton, CT, died on September 20, 2025 at Norwalk Hospital. She previously lived in Orlando, FL and Hopewell Junction, NY.
Born in Jamaica on December 12, 1937, Myrtle was the daughter of the late Daniel and Vinnette (Francis) Willis. She retired in 2000 from Dutchess County where she was employed as a social worker for 21 years.
Myrtle will be deeply missed by her family whom she loved immensely. She is survived by her children, Ava Turner of Wilton, CT and Ivan Prendergast and his wife Renata of Wappingers Falls, NY; her grandchildren, Alexander, Melissa, Samantha, Tanisha, and Chenijah; her siblings, Rose Hilton, Delores Lewis and her husband Lincoln, Hilda Brown and her husband Michael, Leon Lewis, and Sheila Henriques; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle was also predeceased by her husband, Ivan Prendergast, Sr.; and her son, Lawrence Prendergast.
Myrtle was a Christian who loved going to church and being with her church family and friends. She was an artist who enjoyed working with clay to make jars, pots, and jugs. She liked crocheting, singing in the choir, and tinkering in her garden. She was learning to play the piano so that she could play Christian music. Myrtle will be remembered for her generosity, always wanting to help the poor and those in need.
The family will receive friends at Bethel Baptist Church, 511 Shenandoah Rd., Hopewell Junction on Saturday, October 4th from 10 - 11 am with a funeral service beginning at 11 am. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Cemetery.
