Dr. Frank B. Light passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, surrounded by family. Known by many as Doc Light, he was an anesthesiologist at Rahway Hospital for 40 years. He formerly served as the President of the Medical and Dental Staff, as well as the Hospital Foundation.

He was the son of Theodore and Beatrice (Hill) Light. Frank was born in Newark, N.J. And grew up in Hillside, N.J. He graduated from Hillside High School (56), Rutgers (59). He was the last class to graduate from Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry (66) which later changed names to N.J. College of Medicine and Dentistry. Frank was a surgical intern and resident at U.S. Public Health services in Staten Island, N.Y. where he completed his military service. Frank devoted his life to many humanitarian causes. He was a very humble man who treated everyone with care, concern and compassion.

Over the years, Frank has proudly served on the Board and as President of Family and Childrens Services in Elizabeth. Also, as a Board member and President of Runnells County Hospital.

In 1988, Frank was asked to go on a medical mission to Mexico to help provide very needed medical and surgical care to needy children. This trip changed his life. Frank went on to help organize over 30 trips around the world. He collected supplies, packed supplies and provided lifesaving surgeries for thousands of children. This is what Frank was meant to do.

Frank has received several humanitarian awards over the years, while he appreciated these honors, he was fine not to be acknowledged with any fanfare. He truly loved helping others!

Above these many accomplishments, Frank was a devoted family man. He and his wife Cathie of 50 years raised their children in Hillside, then in Clark for the last 41 years. He was so proud of each of his children; Michelle Adler (Bruce), Steven Light (Christine), Kristin Dewan (Timothy), David Light (Susan), Matthew Light (Danielle) and Jade Light.

Frank was predeceased by his daughter's, Tracy and Margaret Light and his sisters, Regina Siehl and Patricia Light. He was devoted to his extended children, Angie, Jhanna and Rael and his 7 grandchildren: Taylor, Karl Patrick, Ava, Gabriel, Ania, Zachary and Emma. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Theodore, Robert and Michael Light.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Road, Clark, on Monday, September 8 from 4 - 8 pm. The Funeral begins on Tuesday at 9 am at the Funeral Home, thence to St. Agnes Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 am. To offer condolences, please visit www.krowickigorny.com
