In Loving Memory of Joanna Marie Korbaylo (née Patterson)

November 29, 1949 - September 15, 2025

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Joanna Marie (Marie) at age 75, on Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by love and peace. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse and friend, she brought warmth and laughter to every life she touched.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Marie lived a life defined by compassion, resilience and quiet strength. Her laughter filled our home, her kindness shaped our days, and her love was the foundation of our family.

One of Marie's (Red Owl's) proudest roles was serving her community as a Girl Guide leader for many years. She inspired generations of young girls to be courageous, kind and resourceful. Whether leading campfire songs, organizing community service projects, or simply offering a listening ear, she embodied the values of the Guiding movement with unwavering dedication. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she mentored and the friendships she nurtured along the way.

In her later years, Marie faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s for fourteen years with courage and dignity. Though the disease may have dimmed her memories, it never diminished her spirit. She remained a gentle presence, offering smiles and moments of clarity that reminded us of the vibrant woman she had always been.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Kin Place Personal Care Home for their compassionate care, kindness and unwavering support throughout Marie’s journey. Your dedication brought comfort and dignity to her final years, and we are forever grateful.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Brian, her son Kevin (Kathryn), her daughter Jennifer (Jon), her grandchildren, Claire, James, June and Rose, who will carry forward her legacy of love, patience and grace. Her memory will live on in the stories we share, the traditions she began and the quiet strength she instilled in all of us. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Alan, Dennis, mother Mary, father Duncan and most recently her sister Donalda (Bonnie) on September 18th, 2025.

A casual come and go Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, at Seasons Funeral Chapel in Oakbank. Please feel free to come and gather, any time between 11:00 – 2:00 PM for some refreshments and to meet with the family. There will be a time of remembrances at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, in honor of her journey and in hope for others.
