It is with profound sadness the family of Richard “Rickey” Francis Burns announce the sudden passing which occurred on Sept 17 2025. Rickey was a devoted husband to Cynthia, cherished father, beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, caring uncle, and trusted mentor to many.
Born in Charlottetown, PE on January 31, 1944, he was the son of the late James and Mary Sally (Campbell) Burns. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers Wilfred, Donnie (Marie), Maurice (Debby), Bobby and Jim (Dot) and sisters Gertie Wolfe (Frank) and Helen Bell.
Rickey will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Cynthia, children Kimberly Younker (David), Amanda Burns, and Blair Burns (Heidi); cherished grandchildren Kelsey Cudmore, Cody Cudmore, Logan Younker (Shea), Brandon Younker, Jordyn Knox and Madison Knox; great grandchildren Suzie and Tucker. He is also survived by his siblings Mike Burns (Theresa), Andy Burns, Carley Cormier (Jimmy), brother-in-law Mike Bell and many nieces and nephews.
Rickey worked for Sherwood Rink for many years. He was an active volunteer with Special Olympics, loved to play 5 pin bowling and spending time with his family.
Rickey lived a life defined by selflessness, kindness, and generosity. He accomplished so much—not by seeking recognition, but by simply doing what he loved: helping others grow, succeed, and become their truest selves. His quiet strength, humor, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who knew him.
To his family, Rickey was a constant source wisdom, and encouragement. To his friends and community, he was a guiding light, a patient listener, and a man who always gave more than he received.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, with visitation on Tuesday, September 23 from 4-7 p.m. His funeral service will take place in the chapel on Wednesday, September 24 at 2pm.
