Evelyn Griffith Obituary

Evelyn Griffith, of Garden Spot Village in New Holland, PA, died June 29, 2019 at the age of 83. A beloved wife and mother, Evelyn was born in Edgewater, NJ, to the late Tobias and Alvilde Rheinerston Egeland, and was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Eugene Griffith. Throughout her life, Evelyn brought the heart of a volunteer and a perceptive wit to the organizations and activities she took part in. While raising her family, she worked at Great Valley High School for several years in Malvern, PA, and later as an administrative assistant for a chemical company. She was passionate about helping others, volunteering for many different non-profit organizations, including local food banks and the ReUzit shop in New Holland, and lending her knitting talents to create sweaters for Knit for Kids and blankets for hospice. Evelyn was also an active and energetic community member. In Malvern, she led the women’s group of her church and then was a member of St. Stephen Reformed Church in New Holland. As an avid bowler until recent years, her name was a familiar sight in the local newspapers for achieving the high score for the week. She also enjoyed playing cards and participating in weekly Pinochle and Weirdo games with her friends at Garden Spot Village. Surviving are two daughters, Vickie Lynn Wolfe of Leola, PA, and Linda Ann Custer of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, David Bremner of Pittsburgh, PA, Brian Pitt of Jacksonville, FL, and Lauren Amacker of Jacksonville, FL; three great grandchildren; and a brother, Edgar Egeland of Temple, TX. Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Lee Griffith. Services and interment will be private. If desired, contributions in Evelyn’s memory may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA 17557 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
