Harriet Jane (Lease) Eaton Cumberland, Maryland Obituary

Harriet Jane (Lease) Eaton

Rawlings, MD – Harriet Jane (Lease) Eaton, 84, of Rawlings, MD, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, at WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab, where she had been a resident for the past 3 years.  Born September 23, 1934, in Cresaptown, MD, Harriet was the daughter of the late Mason Lease and Alberta (Kelly) Lease. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years: James W. Eaton, Sr.; and two sons: James W. Eaton, Jr. and Jeffrey A. Eaton.  Harriet was a 1952 graduate of Allegany High School and briefly attended Frostburg State Teachers College. She enjoyed sewing and for a while had a part time career making custom draperies and slipcovers. Harriet was employed by Eyerly’s Department Store where she worked as a manager in the Wig Department and then worked at the BonTon until she retired.  Harriet is survived by her children: Gary Eaton, Rawlings; Steven Eaton and his wife, Jane, Mt Savage; Elizabeth “Beth” Kronenwetter and her husband, Jim, Boynton Beach, FL; daughter in law: Krista Eaton, Rawlings; and two granddaughters: Sarah Eaton and Emily Mathews. She also leaves behind her sister:  Daisy Ritchie; sisters-in-law: Karen Lease and Ethel Judd, and numerous nieces and nephew. Harriet was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and in later years enjoyed arranging the flowers for the church services. Harriet enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Coffee League.  In retirement, she and her husband were members of the Queen City Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America and enjoyed participating in club activities which included traveling to car shows throughout the country.  Harriet loved her family, was a true and devoted friend and a kind, caring, and giving person.  Unfortunately, she developed Alzheimer’s Disease, which over time denied her the ability to enjoy the things she held so near and dear to her.  At this time, Harriet was fortunate to have two devoted angels come into her life: Carole Bates and Debbie McKenzie.  The family would like to thank them for the compassion, devotion, and commitment they provided to Harriet over the past 6 years.  “Carole and Debbie, you treated our mother like your own and we will never forget the respect, love, happiness, and exceptional care you provided for our Mom throughout this difficult journey.”  Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.  “Mom, God saw that you were suffering, and it is a blessing to know that you are now at peace in his loving arms. We love you.”

Gary, so very sorry to read of your Mom's passing. I remember her as a very kind and sweet person. The last sentence of her obituary says so much, she is at peace now. My Mother also suffers from Alzheimer's so I do understand. Sending prayers for comfort.
