Phyllis A. Gibbs

<b>Phyllis Philson Gibbs</b> was born the second child to Bishop Edward and Thelma Philson on January 14, 1939 in Newark, NJ. The family moved to Roselle, NJ where Phyllis graduated from Abraham Clark high School in 1956. Phyllis continued her education and graduated from Essex County Vocational School. She also attended Felician College in Lodi, NJ where she received her nursing certification. Phyllis married John Hicks in 1957 and to this union four beautiful children were born. John, Gary, Gregory and Nicole Hicks. Phyllis remarried Charles Gibbs in 1988. A union that lasted more than 30 years until her unfortunate passing. Phyllis was a world traveler, visiting at least four foreign countries and nearly most states in the USA. She loved Las Vegas. In fact, it was where Charles and Phyllis were married and visited often. Phyllis had a flair for fashion, always looking sharp and wearing her high heels. She worked as a nurse at UMDNJ in Newark, NJ for many years. She also worked as a private duty nurse. Before retiring, she worked as an executive housekeeper with Holiday Inn in Springfield, NJ. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, NJ where she served as an usher and a member of Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield where she formerly served on the Floral Alter Guild. Phyllis is preceded in death by her son Gregory Hicks; her parents Bishop Edward Sr. and Rev. Mother Thelma Philson; her sister Judith A. Holliday; a grandson Justin Chatman and a stepdaughter Diane Gibbs. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Charles Gibbs; two sons John W. (Brenda) and Gary (Rovina) Hicks; one daughter Nicole Hicks-Chatman; two daughters in love Keisha Greer and Trisca Williams; 13 grandchildren Jamon Hicks (Christine), Jasmin Oliver (Bryan), Shanelle Hicks, Jason Moore, Rainy and Malechi Gibbs, Brooke Williams, Mashae Hicks, Joi Depas (Billy), Kayla Hicks, Terence and Jaden Chatman and Johnny Hicks V; eight great grandchildren Addis-Asia Anderson, Altaryck Robinson, Zoey, Zyan and Jazlyn Oliver, Jordan Depas, Mylah Hicks and Terah Jones; siblings Edward (Linda), Clarence (Beverly) and Anthony Philson; Karen Thompson and Joy Manning; sisters in love Tommie, Sandra, Anna, Judy Janis, Martha and Peggy; former husband John Hicks, III and former son in law Terence Chatman.
