Billy Joe Whiteman Logansport, Indiana Obituary

Billy Joe Whiteman

William "Billy Joe" Whiteman, 78, of Logansport, passed away Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, at Miller's Merry Manor. Born April 4, 1941, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Huffman) Whiteman. Billy Joe was employed as a production worker at Peak Community Services. Formerly known as Woodlawn Center, the Peak Community and Carey Services were a large extension of Billy Joe's own family. He was the oldest participant in Cass County Special Olympics and never lost the thrill of competition whether playing basketball, throwing horeshoes or bowling. He would want all of the volunteers who made these activities possible to know how very much each of you impacted his life. Billy Joe was baptized at the Lifegate Church. He loved to sing hymns and his happy personality blessed many lives. It was obvious that God sent him here to brighten his little corner of the world. His love of competition carried through to card games as well. He enjoyed playing poker, 500 Rummy and euchre with his family and friends. One of his favorite past times was shopping and strolling the aisles of Walmart. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Linda Whiteman, Logansport; two nieces, Mary Jo Bashore, Marion; and Karen (Mike) Burvan, Dyer; and one nephew, Kevin (Beth) Whiteman, Westfield. In addition to his Peak family, he was lovingly cared for by his Miller's Merry Manor "family" for he loved each one who cared for him and the groups and individuals who came to bring happiness to Billy Joe and all the residents - the many new friends he made while living there. Billy Joe was preceded in death by his brother Robert McKaig; and his sister Judith Goin.
