Obituary
Leo J. Swearingen, Jr., 71, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at his home. Leo was born October 27, 1947 in Kewanee, the son of Leo J., Sr. and Eleanor (Lyons) Swearingen. Leo graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1966. Leo married Shirley A. Kimberling on August 18, 1973 in Kewanee; she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Laurie Swearingen, of Kewanee, Melanie Hayes (Bill Scheeler), of Davenport, Mandi (Chip) Hainline, of Kewanee; grandson, Chad Hayes; a granddaughter, Kari Hayes (Colton Martin); three great granddaughters, Mikella and Olivia Westefer, and Adalynn Hayes, all of Kewanee; three sisters, Bonnie (Bud) Pyle, Betty Swan, Barb (Jerry) Salisbury; one brother, Gary Swearingen, all of Kewanee; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dolores Pierce; a niece and one nephew. Leo was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during Vietnam. Leo owned and operated Leo’s Illini Tap since February 1988, retiring in August 2008. He was a member of the Kewanee Veterans Council and was on the park board. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He was an avid Cubs, Bears and Illini fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 6:00 pm, Monday, May 13, 2019 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until the time of service on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the funeral home.
