Marina Roselle Humenny Obituary

Marina Roselle Humenny (Pidperyhora)

July 2, 1958 – August 5, 2025

Surrounded by love and held in our hearts forever, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, Marina Roselle Humenny, who left us peacefully on August 5, 2025, after a courageous three-month battle with cancer. She was 67.

Marina was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1958. Her early years took her to Flin Flon, Manitoba, before her family eventually settled in Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, where she met and later married Paul Humenny. A few years after their daughters were born, Marina chose to begin a new chapter on her own with her girls, drawn to the beauty of the Okanagan and the closeness of her mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Cliff Foster. She made Penticton her home and, for more than 37 years, embraced the community and life she built there.

Marina’s career journey was as diverse as it was meaningful—beginning as a librarian, then a waitress, a disability support worker, and ultimately finding her true calling in the automotive industry. For more than 20 years, she was a cornerstone at Penticton Toyota, working alongside her brother Larry and family as Business Development Manager. Marina poured her heart into her work, building lasting connections with both colleagues and customers. A proud Toyota owner and advocate, she brought passion, knowledge, and professionalism to everything she did. Her colleagues remember her not only as a trusted leader, but also as a mentor, a dear friend, and a customer favourite whose warmth touched everyone she met.

Her greatest joy was her family — especially her daughters and grandchildren. Marina was present for every milestone, from the big celebrations to the everyday moments that mattered most. She was admired for the close, loving bond she shared with her daughters — a relationship as much like best friends as it was mother and child. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews grew up surrounded by her love, guidance, and unwavering presence. She always showed up.

Marina’s warmth was magnetic. With her contagious laugh, fun-loving spirit, and gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, she had a way of brightening any room. A true “yes” woman, she embraced life without hesitation and carried a rare ability to find silver linings in every situation. Her positivity inspired many—but so did her spunky, fearless, and sometimes stubborn firecracker side. Brave and strong, she stood her ground when it mattered most. She was a trusted confidante (often described as a vault), someone whose word could always be counted on. Whether lighting up a dance floor (or table), sharing a laugh, or facing challenges with courage, she lived wholeheartedly. Above all, she was deeply loved.

Marina’s name, meaning “from the sea,” perfectly mirrored her — graceful, and grounded, yet full of strength., while Roselle — “little rose” captured her beauty and grace. She found joy in the little things, and met life with strength, laughter, and a spirit that still shines.

While her family was always at the heart of her life, Marina will also be remembered for the little joys that made her uniquely herself. She cherished her daily Timmy’s steeped tea, loved browsing Winners and local flea markets, and enjoyed scenic drives along the beach. Her green thumb showed in the care she gave to her flowers, and she could often be found lost in a good novel, especially those by John Grisham. She never passed up the chance to enjoy her favourite food—calamari, dry ribs, and a good bowl of wonton soup. A true animal lover, she had a soft spot for her handsome black cats Sake and Temaki and her furry-grand-dog Lupita. Her love of purses, shoes, and timeless style was the perfect reflection of her fun, vibrant personality.

Her legacy is one of kindness, selflessness, and love — a life well-lived and deeply cherished. Marina is survived by her eldest brother Seann Gentray (Penticton), her youngest brother Larry (Laura) Pidperyhora (Summerland), her daughters Rayna Humenny (Osoyoos), Jasmine (Johnny) Aantjes (Penticton), her bonus daughter Chynna Winter (Calgary), and the father to her daughters, Paul Humenny (Watson, SK). More than anything, Marina was proud of the legacy she leaves in her ever-growing circle of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

At her request, there will be no formal funeral. Instead, her family will honour her wishes with a day of Chinese food and good tunes on the beach, reminiscing together.

In lieu of flowers—though Marina truly loved them, and her family is deeply grateful for the many beautiful bouquets already received in her honour—donations may be made to your local Breakfast Club. Marina proudly volunteered with the Penticton Breakfast Club through the Feedway Foundation, taking joy in helping with the weekly grocery shopping. Donations to cancer research would also be a meaningful tribute. Most of all, her family would treasure the sharing of your favourite memories of Marina, as those stories keep her spirit alive.
