Obituary for Michael Lee “Heybob” Heyob
Michael Lee “Heybob” Heyob, 51, of Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2025, while on vacation in Maryland. Born on January 28, 1974, in Indianapolis, he was the beloved son of Gary Michael Heyob and Mary Catherine (Bergen) Taylor; he was preceded in death by his father.
Known to many simply as “Heybob,” Michael was a natural storyteller with a love for laughter and connection. One of his favorite spots was the Tibbs Drive-In on the west side, a place where memories were made and shared. His hands were as skilled as his heart was generous, whether fixing something around the house or operating a forklift, his versatility and work ethic left a lasting impression. A true jack of all trades, he found joy and purpose in his work and the people he worked alongside.
Michael was an avid supporter of Indiana’s teams, proudly cheering for the Pacers and Colts season after season. But it was his unwavering devotion to his friends and community that truly defined him. Raised on the southside of Indianapolis, he built a sprawling network of close-knit friendships, his “brothers,” as he lovingly called them. Always one of the first to show up when someone needed help, his loyalty and spirit left no one untouched. Heybob’s passing leaves a profound void, but comfort comes in knowing he is joyfully reunited in heaven with his brother, Mark, and nephew, Zack.
He is survived by his significant other of eight years, Susie Browning; son, Shawn Heyob; daughter, Kaylee Raquel Heyob; mother, Cathy Taylor; sister, Crystal Purvis; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished lifelong friends.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lauck & Veldhof Funeral & Cremation Services, 1458 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. A service celebrating Michael’s life will begin at 2 p.m., with entombment to follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist with final arrangements are appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
