George Ian Veitch , October 1, 1928 – July 3, 2025

George Ian Veitch, of Richmond Hill, Ontario passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in his 97th year.

The loss of George is mourned greatly by his three children Barbara (Tom), Rob (Chris), and Heather (Dave), his grandchildren Leanne (Omid), Allison (Florian), Victor (Anisha), Nicky (Johnny), Jennifer, Corinne (Gary), and Erin (Alex), and his great-grandchildren Ziya, Delara, Gabriel, Konstantin, Theodore, Wesley and Esther.

George is preceded in death by his parents, David Veitch and Christina Walker Veitch, his wife Eleanor Veitch, and his brothers Donald and Robert Veitch.

George moved to Canada from his birthplace in Kingston, Jamaica when he was 21 years old. He worked an incredible career of 35 years at Air Canada. It was at Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada) where he met his future wife, Eleanor at the other end of the pneumatic mailing tube system! They had a great life together for 64 years.

George was a loving father and husband, always sharing words of thanks and gratitude for those who can’t be with us. He maintained friendships and built a strong network of community throughout his life, hosting various card and domino nights, and attending square dancing regularly. He was an active member of the Carville and Richmond Hill United Church of Canada congregations. He was an avid gardener and handyman, always working to care for his home and property and taking a keen interest in family projects providing welcome help and guidance. He built major additions to his home where he lived for 71 years and to his cottage. He enjoyed travelling and visited the Caribbean, USA, Europe and Great Britain.

With his consistent warmth and humour, George showed us how to savour the good in every day and how to meet life's challenges with calm and compassion. We will miss him greatly, but are thankful he is together again with his wife Eleanor.
