Gertrude 'Trudy' Yarbrough Bagley Obituary

Gertrude Yarbrough Bagley passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. She was born in Wewoka, OK to Thomas Yarbrough and Susie Buck. Gertrude (Trudy) graduated from Haskel Institute, Lawrence, Kansas in May 1949. In May 1950, she enlisted in the US Army WAC from which she received an Honorable Discharge in January 1952. Soon after joining the WAC, she was assigned to Ft Bliss, TX. It was there she met her husband and they were married in April 1951. Immediately after the wedding, Trudy went to Okinawa on an overseas assignment while her husband went to White Sands Proving Ground (WSPG), New Mexico. Upon her return from Okinawa and her discharge from the WAC, Trudy took up her role as an Army wife, following her husband to one assignment at WSPG, three to Germany, one to the Presidio of San Francisco, one to Fort Bliss and three to Redstone Arsenal, AL. During this period, which included two unaccompanied tours to Korea by her husband, she managed to raise three children. Upon her husbands retirement from the Army in 1976, Trudy continued her role as a home maker. She was a Life Member of the DAV Auxiliary, Unit 26, the American Legion Post 237, and the Philippine American Association of Alabama, Inc. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: John Yarbrough, Paul Yarbrough, Marie Powell, Pauline Wapskineh, Frank Yarbrough, Jerry Frank and Sonny Frank. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, CW4 Aniceto I. Bagley, USA-Ret., daughter Karen S. Gallaher (Robert) of Kingston, TN, son Robert W. Bagley of El Paso, TX, daughter Shirley D. Bruce (Bill) of Owens Cross Rds, AL, granddaughter Aricia C. Mincy (Rick) of Chattanooga, TN and grandsons Cameron C. Klinner of Huntsville, AL, Ryan E. Williams of Lawrenceville, GA, and Aaron K. Gallaher (Katy) of Tallahassee, FL, and great-grandson JJ Gimbel of Tallahassee, FL. Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10 to 11:00 a.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your favorite charity.
