Elaine Alford Obituary
Born Elaine Purvis Alford, born January 21, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey, and a cherished resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 55. Her life was a vibrant tapestry of love, laughter, and inspiration, woven through her dedication to family, work, and her myriad passions.
When traveling to New York one winter in 1995 with a friend, she luckily took the wrong train where she met her now husband, Essic Alford IV, where interest struck each other, both and connected their beautiful love story. Three years later, their son, Raishaun was born and then in 2001 they settled their love in marriage and tied the loop. The same day they spent their honeymoon, in Cove Haven, where she was known to pregnant with her second child that was also born in Newark. They moved into a beautiful home where they raised both children and then moved in 2018.
Elaine's career spanned over two decades in the banking sector in Jersey City, where she laid down roots and raised her beloved children, Ray and Jenell. Her commitment to her profession was only matched by her enthusiasm for her role as a Mail Handler with the United States Postal Service, where she worked diligently for over 12 years. Her dream of becoming a Private Investigator or Social Worker remained a tantalizing what-if, reflecting her curiosity and heart for helping others.
In every realm of life, Elaine brought energy and joy. She was a lover of Sci-Fi, action, and scary movies, making movie night a cherished tradition for all who knew her. She could often be found indulging her love for shopping, with Bath and Body Works her favored destination—particularly for her signature scent, Japanese Cherry Blossom. Her positive energy was infectious, often heralded by her radiant smile, which lit up any room she entered.
A true connoisseur of the arts and entertainment, Elaine adored watching COPS, First 48, Forensic Files, and especially Judge Judy. Television shows like The Walking Dead, Tyler Perry's Sistas, and I Love Lucy held a special place in her heart.
Traveling was one of Elaine's great joys, as she explored destinations such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Florida, the Bahamas, Barbados, California, and Jamaica. Her culinary tastes were equally adventurous, with seafood, crab legs, and light and fluffy pancakes among her favorite foods. A big tea drinker, she was renowned for brewing the best tea, complemented by her exceptional cooking skills, particularly her spaghetti, tacos, and legendary holiday meals.
Elaine was a fashionista, constantly surprising friends and family with new and exciting looks. She was "That Girl," effortlessly exuding style and confidence. Music filled her soul, with Teena Marie, Whitney Houston, Ralph Tresvant, and R Kelly among her favorite artists. Her prowess at cards, particularly deuces wild, made her a formidable opponent at the card table.
Elaine's generosity was boundless, with her gift-giving a testament to her thoughtful nature. She was known for selecting the perfect present, ensuring no occasion went uncelebrated.
Above all, Elaine was the cornerstone of her family, a beacon of motivation, support, and influence. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 4:00 pm, Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Triad Chapel. Elaine Purvis Alford will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her warmth, and her unwavering love. She leaves behind a world forever brighter for her presence.
