Stephen “Steve” Thomas Collins
October 22, 1957 – July 5, 2025
Stephen “Steve” “Pop Pop” Thomas Collins passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2025, at the age of 67, with family by his side.
He was born on October 22nd, 1957, in Fort Pierce, Florida, to John and Hazel Collins. Steve was the 4th of six children. He grew up spending time with his siblings and neighborhood friends, and from an early age was known for his humor, smarts, and strong will. He graduated from John Carroll High School in 1975.
Steve was one of the great contributors and consumers of beauty in this world. After high school, he attended The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where he developed his natural talents for being creative. With pencils, brushes, and intuition, Steve conveyed many of the spectacles within his mind onto once blank canvases. Much of his work can be found throughout his home and with close family members. He also drew by hand the logo for Lake Ozonia Enterprises, which, after several decades, can still be seen on t-shirts and sweatshirts worn by lake goers from across the country visiting Lake Ozonia, NY.
As an adult and father of 3, Steve did what most are afraid to do; he went back to school to pursue his calling. As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room at Martin South for 25 years, he restored the health of countless people and made an impact on this world in the greatest way possible.
From the Bay Area of California to Bangor, Maine, he loved the United States and spent many days of his life exploring this country in depth. Steve also had a dry sense of humor, so he was not one to laugh at every joke; however, when he did laugh, it was always authentic and infectious enough to brighten the room. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren and making them laugh.
Steve was a beautiful man with a wise soul who closed the book on a life thoroughly examined.
Survivors include his daughters, Meghann Joseph and Bridget Collins, his son, Evan Collins, and his three grandchildren, Everett, Jack, and Hazel; as well as his siblings, Sandra Sharples, Teresa Brown, Mary McAteer, and Danny Collins; in addition to several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Roberts Collins Bonafede, his father, John Wilson Collins Jr., and his brother John “Johnny” Wilson Collins III.
Per Steve’s request, no services will be held. A celebration of life will be held privately amongst family.
