Aneita L. Metzger, 93, of Carlock passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2019 at the Villas of Holly Brook, Bloomington, IL. Aneita was born March 2, 1926, in Carlock to Thomas and Ruth Rader Swearingen. Aneita grew up in Carlock where she met her husband-to-be, Montel B. Metzger. They married on October 26, 1946, in Carlock. Aneita and Montel were a team for almost 72 years. Montel died in October 2018.
She is survived by their three children, Tom (Margie) Metzger, Waupaca, Wis.; Dee Metzger, Normal; LuAnne Hollingshead, Naperville, IL; five grandchildren, Mindy (Paul) Vitucci, Madison, Wis.; Molly (Tim) Struve, Newport, Ky.; Mary (Alex) Groth, Spicewood, Texas; Hunter Hollingshead, Chicago, IL; and Regan Hollingshead, Lawrence, Kan.; and five great-grandchildren, Jack Vitucci, Emma Vitucci, Madeleine Struve, Lorelei Struve and Josephine Groth. Aneita is preceded in death by her husband, parents; one brother, Harold Swearingen; and an infant brother.
Aneita spent her entire life in Carlock. She met her "Peoria Boy" Montel and they settled down there and raised their family. They made many lifelong friends in the area. She was the Carlock Chronicle newspaper editor for many years. For over 60 years Aneita assisted her husband in the family business, the Montel B Metzger Insurance Agency. They also assisted Barney Argo with Otto-Argo Funeral Home, Carlock. She and Montel often clerked auctions for many years.
Summers were spent at the McLean County Fair, the Illinois State Fair and other local fairs watching her three children show sheep and cattle. For over 20 years she was a constant figure ringside. Aneita would bring delicious warm meals from home and clean laundry for her kids!
In their later years Aneita and Montel enjoyed taking cruises. Together they made their trips around town to the Mennonite Relief Sale, local auctions and estate sales. Seldom did you see one without the other! Aneita was a member of the Carlock Christian Church. She played the organ for church services, weddings and funerals. Aneita was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Bradley University and a local business school. Aneita enjoyed watching game shows and doing crossword puzzles. She was an excellent speller. Her body was failing her, but Aneita's mind remained sharp and was was stubborn until the end! Aneita was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. There was nothing she enjoyed more than holding a baby and just gazing lovingly at the little ones. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. April 30 at Carlock Christian Church, Carlock, IL. Rev. Bryan Burris will be officiating Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers, IL. Visitation will precede the funeral service, from 9 to 11 am Tuesday at the church.The family suggests memorials be made to Transitions Hospice or Carlock Christian Church.
