Jerry Mathews

Jerry Mathews, 71, died on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County he was a son of the late Harry and Claudine Britton Mathews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Gene Mathews, Larry David Mathews, and Randy Lynn Mathews. Jerry was the Owner of Asheville Metal and a dear friend to many metal scrappers. Surviving are his children: Tammy Mathews Deas and husband William of Fort Mill, SC, Sally Mathews Harris and husband Charles of Old Fort, Mark David Mathews and wife Tonya of Weaverville, Amanda Mathews Tucker of Virginia, and Cody Sean Mathews and wife Kristen of Asheville; brothers: Jimmy Mathews and wife Gwen of Arden, and Tim Mathews and wife Vicki of New Port, TN; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 6 PM Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
