Douglas David Dodds Obituary

Obituary of Douglas David Dodds

Of Leesburg, VA, a native of Hempfield Twp, age 69, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Doug was the beloved husband of Arlene M. (Shubock) Dodds for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence W. and Josephine (McDowell) Dodds and also his brother, Lloyd Dodds.

A 1974 graduate of Hempfield High School, Doug wore the number 76 as a member of the football team. His passion for sports and education led him to Slippery Rock University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. Doug's commitment to youth and sportsmanship shone brightly in his early career as a teacher and coach at Hempfield High School. His enthusiasm for the gridiron, the court, and the track continued throughout his life.

Doug's professional journey took a turn when he left teaching to become a sales representative at The Appliance Store in Downtown Pittsburgh. Eventually, Doug's path led him to Leesburg, where he continued to touch lives as a warm and welcoming Host at several local restaurants.

An ardent supporter of his hometown teams, Doug's enthusiasm for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins was unwavering. He cherished the thrill of live sporting events and watching games on television. He loved the excitement of the horse racing track and had an extensive collection of concert ticket stubs—a testament to his passion for music.

Doug was best known for his quick wit and generous sense of humor, always ready to share a laugh or a smile. His passion for animals was profound, with his Mahogany Merle Rough collie, 'Heart of Harmony,' also known as 'Harmony,' holding a special place in his heart, along with his late collie, “Rhythm’.

Perhaps Doug's most proud accomplishment was his 30-year journey of sobriety. His dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous was unwavering, where he not only found support but also gave it generously, leading local and even international meetings. Doug's story of resilience and hope inspired countless individuals on their paths to recovery.

Those who knew Doug will remember him as a man of humor and heart. His legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and an unshakeable belief in the power of second chances.
