“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness!” Mathew 25:23
Surrounded by her family, Doris Wyvonne Cook Poole passed peacefully into the awaiting arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 5, 2025, at her home in Duncanville, Texas. She was the cherished youngest daughter of Ira James and Edna Faye Cook, born on October 15, 1926, in Snyder, Oklahoma. Her siblings, Louvenia Udee Wilson, Jessie Vineta Brewer, and Dennis Doyle Cook, along with her husband of 73 years, Olin Daniel Poole, her daughter Candy Cheri Phillips, and many of her cherished friends and relatives, were at the gates of heaven to welcome her home.
Our beautiful Doris, growing up on the family farm outside of Snyder, OK, was a social butterfly and involved in church and other community activities from a very young age. She sang in talent shows, was the Homecoming Queen, and graduated from Snyder High School in 1944. In 1943, she became a wartime bride, marrying the love of her life, Danny Poole. And from that marvelous union came three children: Candy Cheri, Danee Gay, and Cortne Brent. Their life together was full of adventure, laughter, family, adaptability, and a love for each other that endured throughout the years. Every challenge was met with prayer and fierce dedication.
Her journey with Danny took them to various cities due to his work with Coca-Cola, including Edmond, OK; Alexandria, VA; Bowling Green, KY; Arlington, TX; Nashua, NH; Pasadena, CA; Sunnyvale, CA; and Atlanta, GA, before finally settling in Duncanville, TX, where she lived for the past 50 years. With every home, Doris and Danny found a church community to serve and nurture their family. Her Faith and Family were at her core. She was dedicated to her children and raising them to love and know the Lord as she did.
As a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, Doris dedicated her time to numerous ministries for missions, youth and women’s programs, hospital support, the elderly, and other church and community programs. In 1988, she and Danny, along with several of her church family, founded the Duncanville Outreach Ministry that continues its work today. She worked tirelessly, transforming the simple closet of donated clothing into a thriving thrift store that provided essential items to families in need. Her dedication to her church and community was boundless.
You could always turn to Grammy. Her loving spirit extended across five generations, always offering wise guidance and encouragement, daily care if you needed it, chatting for hours about anything and everything, or just a good game of Chicken Foot or Skip-Bo, and she never passed up a celebration. Summertime in the pool, family visits, family reunions, elaborate birthday parties, and unforgettable Christmases were hallmarks of her love and dedication. Her fierce love and unwavering support will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Grammy's legacy of love, kindness, and service to others will continue to inspire and uplift her family and community.
Her legacy carries on through her daughter, Danee Gay Roedl (life partner, Delbert), her son, Cortne Brent Poole, along with his wife, Sandy, and her son-in-law, Bill R. Phillips (Candy Cheri’s husband). Her grandchildren—Kevin Ray Phillips (wife, Kathryn), Thomas Daniel Weir (wife, Melody), Jodi Cheri Puhlick (husband, Dan), Jennifer Gay Jorrie (Jim Jorrie), Ashlee Nicole Jolly (husband, Patrick), Jaala Dawn Cox (partner, Michael Embry), and Jason Brent Poole (wife, Morgan)—will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. The joy she brought into their lives is further carried on by her great-grandchildren: Gaylen Sumrall (husband, Shea), Kyle Jorrie (wife, Lauren), Tyler Puhlick (wife, Savannah), Justin Stevens (wife, Ashley), Donevyn Strain, Jackson Phillips, Peyton Puhlick, Garrett Stevens, Helen Phillips, Jakob Strain, Ethan Weir, Katy Spence Phillips, Reagan Cox, and Carleigh Puhlick. Her great-great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Nora, and Solomon Sumrall; Silas and Gemma Jorrie; Preslie and Paityn Jolly; and Wyatt Stevens, will grow up with stories of her boundless love and warmth.
To her many nieces and nephews, her love for you was immeasurable; you were like her own. To all her family, oh, how proud she was of all of you! Each accomplishment celebrated, her interest and dedication to your happiness and success never wavered. Her daily prayers to God, with your name on her lips, were her mission. She was truly God’s gift to us all and will never be forgotten. However, you know her, say her name.
