Ryan P. Loughran Obituary

Ryan Patrick Loughran

September 6, 1979 - July 5, 2025

Ryan Patrick Loughran, 45, of Springvale, Maine, passed away on July 5, 2025, at Maine Medical Center after a courageous and unrelenting battle with pancreatic cancer. He died the way he lived, with grit, humor, and deep love for the people who meant everything to him.

Born in Westbrook and raised in Springvale, Ryan was the kind of person you only had to meet once to remember forever. The kind who could fix anything with a wrench and a joke that probably shouldn’t be told around children. The kind whose laugh you’d recognize from across a campground. The kind of man who never took himself too seriously, but took care of his family with unshakable loyalty and pride.

Ryan met Lori, the love of his life, when they were just teenagers at Sanford High School. From that day forward, they were rarely apart. Married for 16 years, they built a life filled with late-night fishing trips, campfire stories, shared dreams, and the kind of inside jokes that only happen when two people truly grow up together. Through every challenge, they stood as one, weathering storms and holding fast to the vows they made, with a love that could never be broken.

Ryan wore many hats throughout his life — fisherman, shipyard worker, pool hall hustler, poker player, and proud dad — but above all, he was Ryan. A natural-born storyteller. Endlessly curious, he often picked up new things just to master them, whether it was a Rubik’s cube, a tangled fishing line, or a butterfly knife. Whatever it was, he’d figure it out. That was Ryan.

He was the life of every gathering, the mischief-maker with a heart of gold. Whether you knew him from a job site, a bass boat, or a campground bike gang, you knew a man who could make you laugh until you cried, and who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought.

From the Kennebunk River to the backwoods of Stuben, Ryan knew where the fish were biting. Later in life, he found pride and purpose running his elver business, a quiet testament to his work ethic and ingenuity. He never sought the spotlight. He just wanted to do right by his family and friends, and he did that every day.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Lori M. (Bruno) Loughran, his three children who were the light of his life, Braedon, Colby, and Adel, all of Springvale, his father, John R. Loughran, his sister Jennifer Loughran and her partner, Vincent Hersom, his twin brother, Thomas Loughran, his nephews Finn and Riley Doughty, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply. He was predeceased by his mother, Patrice Loughran, whom he missed every day.

Those who knew Ryan remember his big laugh, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty. He was the fastest to break anything, the first to jump into a project, and the last to leave your side when you needed him most. Friends remember fishing stories, campfire antics, and his legendary air compressor prank in Mr. Clark’s class.

He had a way of turning any gathering into a memory. He didn’t just show up, he belonged.

In his final days, when asked what he needed, Ryan never asked for much, just prayers. His quiet trust in God brought him peace, even when his body could no longer carry the weight of his fight.

There’s an ache now where his presence used to be, a scar in the hearts of those who loved him. But that’s what happens when someone fills a space so completely. His legacy isn’t just in the stories or the laughter, but in the way he showed up, fully, unapologetically, and with love.

He took a piece of many hearts when he left this world, especially Lori’s, and that piece can never be replaced. Only sewn back together with a scar that will last a lifetime.

A Celebration of Ryan’s Life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Curtis Lake Christian Church, 38 Westview Drive, Sanford. Memorial visiting hours begin at 12:30 PM, followed by the service at 1:30 PM. There will be a celebration afterwards at Mill Towne Tavern, Sanford, ME.
