Edward Leonard Brown, Jr., retired Watertown Firefighter/EMT, of Natick, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5, 2025.
Born in Waltham the son of the late Edward Leonard Brown and Margaret Elizabeth (Kelley) Brown.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife Beverly Weller Brown of Natick. Loving father of Edward Sterling Brown and his wife Ellen Nally Brown of Hingham; Kevin Mitchell Brown and his wife Courtney Snyder Brown of Lexington, NC and Scott Douglas Brown of Watertown. Cherished grandfather of Olivia; Kevin and James “Jake”. Brother of Mark Brown and his wife Terry of Millcreek, WA; Margaret Vaughn of Clearwater, FL; Patricia Coyle of Holiday, FL; Ginny DeLorey of Pembroke; John Brown and his wife Kathleen of West Roxbury and Falmouth and the late Barbara, Mary Lila, Michael and William. Also survived by 14 nieces and 18 nephews.
Ed spent his formative years in Waltham and was a graduate of Waltham High School where he excelled in football as a center and a member of the hockey team. He is entered into the Waltham Hall of Fame for his sports activities. He went on to graduate from Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, ME where he continued to participate in football and hockey. Ed attended the University of Connecticut where he also excelled in football and hockey. He was passionate about playing golf and enjoyed doing so with his sons and friends.
Ed served his country with the United States Army as a PFC and Paratrooper. He was a Firefighter and EMT with the Watertown Fire Department for many years before retiring. When not working at the fire station, he spent time working in the plumbing field. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV and the American Legion. He was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Wayland as an usher; leader of the Saturday Morning Saints, as well as the Covenant Group and the Bible Study Group all at Trinitarian Congregational Church.
He was a member of the Mass. Audubon Society, the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Wayland Inner Club. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Natick Firefighters and EMT’s, the MGH Partners, Newton Wellesley Hospital and Good Shephard Community Care as well as the Natick Sr. Helpers, Tufts Health and the Trinitarian Congregational Church Pastoral Care and Deacons during Ed’s life.
Ed will be fondly remembered by his family and all the lives that he touched in his 90 years.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road (Rte 126), Wayland. Private family interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Edward’s memory may be sent to Bridgton Academy, 11 Academy Lane, North Bridgton, ME 04057 or Trinitarian Congregational Church.
