RICHMOND, Ind. – Rosalee Wilmot, age 68, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Reid Health, surrounded by her family.
Born May 9, 1957, in Richmond, Indiana, to Russell and Leota Bowles Cunagin, Rosalee was a life-long resident of Richmond. She was a 1975 graduate of Richmond High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Jeffery DeWayne Wilmot, on August 24, 1975.
There has been no pairing more iconic in our family than “Jeff and Rosie” only followed by “Joe and Doug” and “Odie and Abbagale.” Under that chuckling cynical shell was a big reaching heart. It rarely reached her voice, but boy, did it shine in her actions. She would run to the local pantries each month and hand out the food to loved ones across the neighborhood. She cared about her neighbors, hosted her boys' football and sports gathering events at her house and would cook for them all. Her famous taco salad, the best buttery pork chops and demanded you never leave the house hungry.
Rosie cared for not only her sons and son’s friends but her grandkids. She made sure they were always safe, taken care of, and seen.
Rosie was an oracle of Richmond, she read her local newspaper every single day for decades, knew the history of so many locals and was always curious of who knew who. She cared about people and their responsibilities. Rosie loved caring for people and animals and fostered several animals. She was a long-time member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Joseph DeWayne (Angela) Wilmot and Douglas Matthew (Britney) Wilmot; grandchildren, Andrew Wilmot, Reagan Wilmot, Shannon Wilmot, Jacob Rose, and Hannah Rose; sister, Shirley “Annie” (Tom) Stella; father-in-law, Elmer Ray Wilmot; and many friends, including “the Florida girls”, “the Thursday walking club”, and “the lunch crew”; and her dog “Teddy.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 37 years, Jeffery DeWayne Wilmot, on November 11, 2012; her parents; and many special friends.
Visitation for Rosalee Wilmot will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Michael and Jennifer Stonebraker officiating. Burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery.
