Emily Brychka Obituary

Emily (Leskiw) Brychka passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at age 97 in St. Paul's Personal Care Home in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Emily was predeceased by her husband,John Brychka, who passed away in March of 2010. She will be remembered by her loving daughters Joanne (Don) Oleski of Melville, Saskatchewan, Marcia (Richard) Klak of Calgary, Alberta, Donna (Bruce) Slusar of Sakatoon, Saskatchewan  and Carol (David) Enns of Winnipeg, Manitoba, as well as her grandchildren Katerina (Petro) Nakutnyy, Talya Oleski (Eric Solski), Jordana Klak (Brian Finch), Alexander, Adam and Andrew Slusar, Emily (Kurt)Van Walleghem and Ellen Enns (Tyler Wiebe). Emily was well loved by her great-grandchildren Solomiya and Roman Nakutnyy, Zory and Hannah Solski  and Theodore Van Walleghem. Emily is also survived by her nephews and nieces Garry Leskiw, Glenn Leksiw, Jan Brychka, Mary Brychka, Jim Brychka, Melinda Brechka  and families. 

Emily was born on Saturday, February 4, 1928 at her grandparents Michael and Pearl (Negrych) Genik’s farm in Venlaw, Manitoba.  She had three brothers – Walter, Gordon, and Joseph.  Emily was raised in Dauphin and Venlaw until 1943. She then moved to St. Pierre, Manitoba and completed Grade 8 in 1944.  During the summer she worked in the kitchen at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, after which she returned to her grandparent's farm in Venlaw to provide care for them until their passing.  Emily also worked in Dauphin and then made her way to Winnipeg to work as a companion for an elderly couple.  She went to school at night to take a clerical course. 

While living in Winnipeg, Emily met John Brychka and they were married on January 24, 1952 in Dauphin, Manitoba.  They initially lived in Gilbert Plains and then moved to Dauphin where they built their family home on River Avenue East.  Emily raised her family of four daughters – Joanne, Marcia, Donna and Carol.  She made a home for them and enjoyed cooking, cleaning, gardening and preserving produce along with knitting, sewing, crocheting, and ceramics. Emily was also an excellent golfer and took piano lessons later in life.   In her later years she also enjoyed reading, especially books about history.  Emily and John enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends.

In 2015, Emily became a resident of St. Paul’s Home who looked after Mom with kindness and compassion. Emily will be dearly missed and always remain in our hearts. 

Eternal Memory  Vichnaya Pamyat

A Funeral Service was held for Emily on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2:30 pm, with rosary at 2:00 pm, from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin.

Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery - Dauphin, MB.
