Margie Richardson Thomas Obituary

Margie Richardson Thomas, 93, of Vinton, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Margie was born on February 4, 1932, in Bedford County, Va. She lived in Vinton for 45 years and was a resident of Our Lady of the Valley in Roanoke for the past few years. She was devoted to her family, her faith, and her work with children. She worked for the Roanoke City School System from 1977 to 2003. Her favorite teacher to work with was Mr. David Hurley. They made a long-lasting friendship over their mutual love of children and education.

She was a long-time member of East Gate Church of the Nazarene. While at East Gate, Margie served faithfully in the children's Sunday School department for several decades. She also went on mission trips to St. Lucia, Trinidad, Tobago, and Arizona. Her favorites were the many trips to St. Lucia. These were experiences that brought her friendships and lifelong memories. She was baptized in the Caribbean Sea.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Allen "Whitey" Thomas; sons, Terry A. Thomas and Jerry W. Thomas; parents, Marie and Everett Richardson; and brother, Maynard Richardson.

Margie is survived by her daughters, Lisa (David) Cundiff of Vinton, Cathy (Millard) Greer of Middletown, DE, and Beth (Michael) Plante of Greenville, SC; daughters-in-law, Debra Thomas of Roanoke, VA and Gretchen Thomas of Georgia; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Georgie Conner and Judy McFaden (Morris Johnson); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at East Gate Church of the Nazarene, 2002 Eastgate Ave., Roanoke, VA 24012 at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, with the Rev. George Stevenson officiating, assisted by Pastor Shannon Harris. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Thank you to Oakey's in Vinton for handling the arrangements.

A special thank you to Olivia, Michaela and Lisa from Legacy Hospice. They took such good care of mom and were such a blessing to her and our family.
