Tony Day Obituary

Mr. Benjamin Anthony “Tony” Day, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Left to cherish Tony’s memories are his loving wife of 56 years, Beverly “Aunt B” Bailey Day, daughter, Melissa Ann Day Bodie and her husband Paul Ray, loved like a son Dennis Kyle Hoover, loved like a grandson Ryder Kael Hoover, siblings: Mary Frances “Jimmie” Mayle, Charles Day and his fiancé Rae, Ray Day and his wife Rita, Glenn Day and his wife Shirley, and Mike Day and his wife Becky, in-laws: Norma Day, Margaret Batchelor and her husband Gene, Patricia Shealey, Richard Johnson and his wife Julie, Bobby Johnson and his wife Kathy, and Timothy Bailey and his wife Laurie, friends who were loved like family: Ricky and Donna Hoover, Granny Lucy Hoover, and Mike and Terri Collins, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tony was born on September 15, 1950, to the late Ben Day and the late Mary Lois Watts Day. He is also preceded in death by his brothers: Billy Day and Robert Day, and in-laws: Louis and Wylodene Brown Bailey, Louis Bailey, Jr., Eddie Mayle, and Aubrey Shealey.

Tony served his country proudly as a Veteran of the United States Army. After his time in the Army, Tony was a dedicated member of the Wagener VFW Post # 6304 where he worked to serve his fellow veterans as they supported other veterans, their families, and various community needs. He worked various jobs until he started his career at Holly Farms on March 21, 1974, and retired as Fleet Manager from Tyson Foods Inc. on March 21, 2009, after 35 years of service.

A faithful member of Clear Water Branch Baptist Church, Tony served his church in multiple capacities including chairman of the deacons, music director, and assisting in any area he was needed. Most importantly, his devotion to his walk with Christ was the anchor of his life.

Tony lived a life of service and dedication, he gave endlessly to his family, friends, church, and his community.  He was the true definition of a gentleman; his kind and compassionate heart was evident in his daily life.

An avid outdoorsman, Tony spent much of his time enjoying God’s creation. From planting food plots and growing vegetables, to ensuring that the seeds were able to be passed down for the next generation. He loved sharing the fruits of his labor. Tony enjoyed putting corn out to feed the deer just as much as he did hunting them. He would often sit and watch the deer eat, waiting for the right one to come along. Tony’s favorite seat was behind the wheel of a tractor or in his sneak boat on the Edisto River with a rod in his hand.

Most of all, Tony loved his family. All of his favorite memories were shared with them. From family vacations to time spent around home, Tony’s life revolved around his girls, Beverly and Melissa.

Tony was loved by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy that is unmatched. He will be forever loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wagener VFW Post # 6304, PO Box 304, Wagener, SC 29164.
