PETERSBURGH, NY – Beverly K. (Legenbauer) Sheldon, 86, died peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 4, 2025.

She was born in Troy, NY on April 19, 1939, the daughter of the late Joseph N. Legenbauer and Katherine (Palubniak) Legenbauer. She was raised in Watervliet and was a 1957 graduate of Watervliet High School. She later graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy in 1961.

Beverly began teaching at the Berlin Elementary School in September of 1961 and taught in grades 4th and 6th for over 42 years before retiring. She then returned to substitute teaching for another 10 years in the Berlin School District.

She volunteered as a docent at the Clark Art Museum in Williamstown, MA and was a member of the Russell Sage Alumni Association and the Hoosick Falls United Presbyterian Church T.C. Group. Beverly was a lifelong learner and was very artistic. She enjoyed painting, gardening and collecting owls.

She was the beloved wife of 65 years of Frank S. Sheldon; loving mother of Susan K. Sheldon of Andover, MA and Jennifer L. Sheldon (Thomas Flannery) of Holmdel, NJ; adored grandmother of Katherine S. Smith, Nathaniel S.S. Smith, Matthew S.S. Smith, John Michael M. Flannery and Megan M. Flannery; dear sister of Karen (Legenbauer) Lombardi of Marco Island, FL; aunt of John Lombardi, Samantha Weisman, Alan Gutermuth, Carol G. Anderson, Barbara H. Peterson, James R. Adriance, Samantha A. Hall, Darryl Riedel, Jeffrey, Mark and Lori Sheldon and the late Craig Gutermuth and Gary E. Hine.

The funeral service will be Friday, July 11th at 11:00 am at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh with Pastor Dianne Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Hoosick Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm,
