Robert "Bobby" Malone Holland Obituary

Mr. Robert Malone “Bobby” Holland, age 81, of Lyons, died Saturday, July 5, 2025, at his sister’s home in Millen after a brief illness.  He was a native of Toombs County and grew up in Lyons.  He was a 1962 graduate of Lyons High School where he was an outstanding basketball player, and declined a full ride scholarship to Florida State University to play basketball.  He attended Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon.  In 1960, while in high school, he discovered his true passion in life, which was radio, working his first job at WBBT in Lyons as a disc jockey.   Later, he worked at WVOH in Hazlehurst.  It was during this time he became a radio personality.  Bobby worked at several radio stations during his long career, including stations in Waycross, Tifton, Statesboro, Douglas, Albany, Macon, Valdosta, Athens, Spartanburg, and South Carolina.  He also produced commercials for Fox WTGS in Savannah.  Later in his life, he moved to St. Simons Island where he lived for thirty years and retired from WMOG Island 93 in Brunswick.  One of the highlights of Bobby’s career was when he founded The Georgia Music Channel, which was a way to preserve the history of Georgia music.  He attended Mt. Moriah Church near Lyons, and he enjoyed fishing and crabbing on the coast.  He is preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Charisse Holland; his long-time life partner, Judi Baker; parents, Washington Dewitt Holland and Doris Boyette Holland; and sister, Lynda Holland Reynolds.

His family includes one daughter, Kim Holland of Hazlehurst; four siblings, Beverly Holland Poole and husband James of Millen, Ron Holland and Martha Horne of Warner Robins, Sheryl Holland Nolan and husband Jack of Emmitsburg, Iowa, and Tammy Holland Conner and husband Mark of Perry; five grandchildren, Matt Floyd of Sylvania, Shannon Simmons and husband Lee of Macon, Lance Floyd and wife Dannah of Soperton, Kyle Toler and Greg Toler, both of Douglas; seventeen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a long-time friend, Linda McDilda of Lyons.

A memorial service will be Friday morning, July 11th, 2025, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating.  A private family burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery.
