Thelma Lee Bruner Robertson, age 102 ½, went home to her Heavenly Father on July 5, 2025, where she was reunited with loved ones who went before her. A woman of great strength and enduring faith, Thelma lived a life marked by devotion to God, family, and her community.
Born on November 26, 1922, Thelma was the last remaining daughter of the late Clarence and Julia Connell Bruner. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Martin W. Robertson; her brothers Henry, Francis, Norvin, James, Victor, her sister Irma and grandson Cameron.
She leaves behind her two children, Karen (Duane) Dunagan and Marty (Donna) Robertson; six grandchildren: Alyson (Brian), Megan, Wes, Brett, Jacob (Ashley), and Marcus; and six great-grandchildren: Braxton, Ethan, Julia, Olivia, Maddie, and Ariel. Thelma’s legacy also lives on through many generations of beloved nieces and nephews.
A lifelong woman of faith, Thelma was a devoted member of Hawesville Baptist Church since 1935. She was the oldest member of HBC when she died. For 70 years, she faithfully prepared the Lord’s Supper. Over the years, she also taught Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, led the youth group for a period of years and guided young girls through GA’s. Thelma sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the Gospel Band. She was a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union and her love for missions led her to helping others through various mission trips locally, state-wide and in foreign countries. Thelma’s faith wasn’t just something she believed—it was something she lived out every day through her service and her deep commitment to the Lord.
In addition to her faith, Thelma was deeply committed to her community. She was a proud charter member of the Hawesville Homemakers, serving Hancock County for an extraordinary 75 years. She often said, “As the home goes, so goes the nation.” Through her involvement, she learned to make her home stronger so she could help make her nation greater. She was also a charter member of the Hancock County Historical Society and the Hawesville Women’s Club, both of which reflected her love of history and service to her community.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who lovingly assisted Thelma in her later years. Your kindness, support, and presence made a profound difference in her life. She couldn’t have made it without you—and neither could we.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 - 8:00 at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville Chapel with burial following in Serenity Hills. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 at Hawesville Baptist Church with visitation 2 hours prior.
