It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved Randolph Edmund Hancock on July 5, 2025.
Randy was born September 1, 1950 to Edmund and Mable Hancock, at the Botwood Cottage Hospital.
He is predeceased by his parents, baby brother William Gary, nephew Bradley Cooke and parents in-law Douglas and Audrey Jewer. Left to cherish his life with fond and loving memories are his wife Deanna “Gail”, sons Gregory (Natasha) and Jeremy (Jennifer, Jackson and Johanna), sisters Louise (Wally), Rosalind (John), Elizabeth (Peter), Serena (Dave) and Janice (Mike), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He grew up in Botwood spending his youth playing hockey, participating in the scouting movement and fostering his love of nature through hunting, fishing and bird watching which became life long hobbies.
Upon graduating from high school he started work at A.N. Antle Limited, but a short time later he joined the A.N.D. Company as a train conductor. When the company changed to Abitibi, he was trained as a tractor-trailer operator. In 2009, when the mill closed, Randy retired with over 40 years of service. After retirement, Randy continued volunteering with the Northern Arm Fire Department and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5.
In 1973, Randy married the love of his life, Gail, with whom he raised their two wonderful sons. In 2016 they welcomed their first grandchild, Jackson, and in 2024 their granddaughter Johanna. His love for his family was unconditional. His family, and in particular his grandchildren, were his light in the darkness and brought him so much joy in his later years.
Randy’s family would like to express a sincere thank you to all of the health care providers at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre and Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care. A special thanks to Dr. G Duffy, Dr. M Andrews, Dr. J Oake, Dr. M Spurrell and Dr. D Sin Yan Too, Randy’s family physician and lifeline.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Botwood Boys & Girls Club or the William Douglas Jewer Memorial scholarship fund at Botwood Collegiate.
Public Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Botwood Trinity United Church.
