John Michael Ramsey, affectionately known as “Ramsey,” by his friends, passed away on July 5, 2025, at Valley View Medical Center at the age of 46, due to complications related to diabetes and kidney failure. Born in Provo, Utah, on May 29, 1979, John lived a life full of adventure, creativity, and deep love for his family and friends.
For the past decade, John made his home in Kent, Washington. From 2003 to 2009, he lived in Parana, Brazil, where he rediscovered his love for cooking—a passion that would stay with him for life. His culinary journey led him to attend Le Cordon Bleu from 2009 to 2011, where he trained to become a chef, combining skill with soul in every dish he made. He could make a gourmet meal out of any leftovers and scrap found in the fridge.
John was an avid skier, an enthusiastic fisherman, and someone who loved tinkering with cars whenever he had the time and energy. He was the life of the party—his laughter, stories, and presence lit up every room he entered. His adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved son, Josiah James Steffan; his mother, Angelica B. Ramsey; his father, Jim M. Ramsey; his sister, Claudia A. Ramsey; his brother, James W. Ramsey, and his extended family and friends here in the U.S. and in Brazil. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A private memorial service was held for close family members on July 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the American Kidney Fund in John’s memory. Contributions can be made at www.kidneyfund.org/tribute-wall.
We invite you to share your memories, photos, and stories of John. His legacy lives on in the meals he shared, the mountains he skied, and the hearts he touched.
