Ilene Jacobson, age 88, of Canby, MN passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. A private family burial will be held. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby is entrusted with the arrangements. Ilene Audrey Jacobson, born September 4, 1930, in Burton Township to Arnold and Ione (Esping) Thomsen. She joined the heavenly choir on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. On June 10, 1951, she married Vernon L. Jacobson. She was an amazing mother to Bill, Karen, Sue, Vicki and Verlene “Beanie”. With her love of education, Ilene continuously learned and taught on a daily basis. She was a certified teacher, a restaurant owner/operator and community volunteer. Fondly known by many as “Mrs. Jakes”, she touched the lives of workers, customers and vendors through her caring expectations and strong leadership. Faith was always a cornerstone of her life. Retirement allowed Ilene to be more active in many ministries of the church. Ilene is survived by her children: Bill (Melzee) Jacobson, Karen (Curt) Olsen, Sue (Bruce) Halvorson, Vicki Jacobson, Verlene (Robert) Stotts; 12 grandchildren: Faye, Veronica, Jeremiah, Jenny, Jake, Kyle, Kristen, Kevin, Jonathan, Allison, Bjorn, Sam and 1 grandpuppy, Scout; multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Louaine Knutson, Beverly (Charles) Wolff, Jeanette (Roger) Dunnette; sister-in-law, Ann Thomsen; and multiple nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Vernon; her parents, Arnold and Ione Thomsen; brother Arvid Thomsen; and her brother-in-law, Curt Knutson. Blessed be her memory.
