Devasia George Obituary

Devasia George—beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God—passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at the age of 80. Affectionately known as “George” by family and friends, he will be deeply missed.

Born in 1945 in Kerala, India, George was the third of six children and the eldest son of Varkey and Mariamma, from Kattathel house in Cheruvandoor. At age 19, he joined the Indian Air Force, serving with honor for over nine years.  In 1974, George moved to the United States to join his wife, Mary, bringing his son Sebastian with him and building a future full of hope and opportunities. They later welcomed two more children, Tomson and Hope, and George also became a proud grandfather to Joshua, Jessica, and Asher.

During his time in the Chicagoland area, George furthered his education with degrees in Electronics Technology and Respiratory Care. He was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Ransom Church for almost 50 years and served as an usher for more than a decade.  Together with Mary, George sponsored the immigration of many family members, laying a foundation for future generations to flourish.

He is survived by his wife Mary; children Sebastian, Tomson, and Hope; daughter-in-law Bridget; son-in-law Jithesh; grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, and Asher; his brother Joseph; sisters Mariakutty and Omana; and many dear relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Varkey and Mariamma, his sister Annamma, and his brother Mathew.  George will be remembered for his humility, faith, and the joy he brought to those around him.
