Brenda Cowart Timms, 86, of Winnsboro passed away on Saturday, Jul 5, 2025. Born in Great Falls, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Willene Reynolds Cowart.
She is survived by her daughter, Renee Timms Bairefoot (Steve); sister, Elaine C. Helms; three grandchildren, Ashley Timms, LeAnn McLellan (Matthew), and Christopher Cook (Jessica); six great grandchildren, Nicole Williams (Tyler), Hannah Williams, Jenna Timms, Elizabeth Williams, Chandler Cook and Landon McLellan; 2 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren, and 1 step-great great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, William “Billy” Timms, Brenda is predeceased by a brother, Benny Cowart, son William “Timmy” Anderson Timms, III, a great-great grandbaby Pendergrass, and step granddaughter Stephanie Bairefoot.
Brenda Cowart Timms was born on October 15, 1939, in Great Falls, South Carolina, to Benjamin Franklin and Willene Reynolds Cowart. She was raised in Great Falls and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1957. Later that year, on December 4, she married the love of her life, Billy Timms, and together they made their home in Winnsboro, South Carolina.
Brenda and Billy were blessed with two children, Timmy and Renee, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild — a growing legacy that brought her endless joy.
Though she devoted many years to raising her family, Brenda later followed her passion for helping others and pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Nursing in 1975. Brenda worked as a Registered Nurse at several area hospitals including Fairfield Memorial, Providence Hospital, Chester Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Richland Memorial. She especially loved working in Labor and Delivery, and she was honored to be present for the birth of her grandson — a moment that remained close to her heart.
After retirement, Brenda enjoyed traveling and found great happiness in crafting and crocheting. She was known for making thoughtful, handmade gifts for family and friends — always giving from the heart.
Brenda will be remembered for her compassion, humor, and spirited nature. As those who knew her would say, “Lord knows, she was a pistol.” She had a strong will, a warm heart, and a way of making everyone feel seen and loved.
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, strength, and service. Brenda was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8:00 Pm Wednesday evening at Pope Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Winnsboro First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Winnsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairfield County Adoption Center, PO Box 60, Winnsboro, SC 29180.
