Darren Michael Byerly, 54, of Hampstead, NC, passed away on July 5, 2025. Born on August 13, 1970, in Guilford County, NC, Darren lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his community, and the many passions that enriched his days.

Darren was a graduate of Western Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC, and a proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His deep connection with UNC continued throughout his life as an avid supporter and member of the UNC Rams Club. His career was highlighted by his role as the owner of University Sports in Durham, NC, where he shared his love of athletics and community spirit.

His interests spanned from playing golf and tennis to attending many UNC Chapel Hill sporting events. He also actively participated in the NC Soccer Association and was a valued member of the Chapel Hill Neighborhood Association.

Darren is preceded in death by his beloved stepfather, Willie Gray; his grandparents, Johnny and Hilda Byerly; and his grandparents, Frank and Wilma Wilson. He leaves behind a loving family who cherished him deeply: his mother, Glenda Gray; father, Charles Byerly (Carolyn); sister, Kristin Robson (Rob); stepbrothers, Jesse Gray (Jennifer) and Adam Gray (Wendy); and stepsisters, Lori Brookbank (Steve) and Andria Key, along with their families.

A celebration of Darren's life will be held in Greensboro, NC, Topsail Island, NC and Boone, NC at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the profound impact he had on those around him.
