Mrs. Valerie Rebecca Lynn Mooney passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 6, 1954, in Midland, Michigan, Valerie was the daughter of George and Elaine (Ainsley) White.

Valerie’s deep faith guided every aspect of her life.

A devout Christian, she graduated from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Calvin University, earning dual Bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education. She dedicated her career to nurturing young minds, teaching at Lima Baptist Temple School in Ohio, and later managing the mail room at Grand Rapids Baptist College.

On August 13, 1977, Valerie married Dennis P. Mooney at North Park Baptist Church, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership built on love and shared devotion. Valerie was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church, where her commitment to faith and community was evident to all who knew her.

Valerie’s greatest joy came from her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Dennis P. Mooney; her children, Phillip G. (Jamie) Mooney, Sean R. (Sara) Mooney, and Jacqlyn E. (Joshua) Murphy; and her cherished grandchildren, Leighton, Wyatt, Jack, Benjamin, Joslyn, and Ronan. She is also survived by her siblings Kenneth (Sharon) White, Sandi (Phil) Roy, Janice White, Bernie (Dawn) White, and brother-in-law Paul Kent.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elaine White; sister, Carrie Kent; and dear friend, Beth Miller.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 2050 Aberdeen St. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

A memorial service celebrating Valerie’s life and legacy will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Rev. Brett Boomsma.
